The weather outside may be cooling off, but things are heating up inside the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. There are many ways to experience the gardens this winter, from cocktails and blues music to gardening classes and an all-new restaurant. Here is a list of five things to look for this winter, and the list keeps growing!

1. Dome After Dark every Friday Night from 6 – 9 p.m.   

Start your weekend in a new destination! Every Friday night from January 3 through March 28 from 6 – 9 p.m. the conservatory dims the lights and turns up its cool vibe. Enjoy refreshments while you stroll through a space that reminds you while it’s freezing outside, inside here, it’s an always friendly climate.

2. Learn on Saturdays grows the gardener in you 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

While mother nature keeps your garden on ice this winter, you can grow as a gardener with the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. Come enjoy the warmth of the conservatory with eight experts over eight weekends who will speak to sustainable gardening techniques, eco-friendly practices, ways to adapt to changing weather conditions, and more.

3. Botanical Blues every Sunday with live music at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Your favorite blues bands in Des Moines are back again every Sunday with live concerts at 1 p.m. and at 3 p.m. Starting January 5 and running through March 30, this is the best way to chase your winter blues away when the weather outside is frightful.

4. Weekly classes and programs

Tired of grey skies and terrible weather? Visit our urban oasis to not only enjoy the tropical paradise but also learn something new. Check out all we have to offer this winter including Valentine’s/Galentine’s favorites like Build-a-Bouquet, 50 Shades of Green, and the Science of Chocolate! Perfect for date night or family time, we’ve got a variety of choices for everyone.

5. Flora Café

Enjoy our new café with Chef Suman from the East Village restaurant HoQ. Open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m, Sunday Brunch is slated to start soon. This is the NEW ideal way to spend your Sunday: Tour the conservatory, grab some Sunday Brunch, then enjoy Botanical Blues.
