Professional lacrosse is a high intensity sport that combines the action of football, hockey, and soccer all in one. Its fast pace and high hitting environment has made lacrosse one of the fastest growing sports in the country. The National Lacrosse League, compiled of 13 teams throughout the United States and Canada, features the world's best lacrosse players. Each NLL team is scheduled for 16 regular season games.

Headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota, the Swarm finished the 2009 season with a record of 6 - 10. They will look to newcomer Zack Greer, former Duke University standout and all-time NCAA Division I leading scorer, to be the "offensive star power they've been looking for" this season. The first regular season game for the Swarm will be January 10 against defending league champions, the Calgary Roughnecks.

The Mammoth, located in Denver , Colorado, finished the 2009 season with a 7-9 record, making it to the Western Division Semifinals before losing to the Calgary Roughnecks. In the National Lacrosse League Entry Draft earlier this September, the Mammoth stuck to their roots, choosing University of Denver products as their first three selections. Crowned the NLL Champions in 2006, the Mammoth open their regular season on the road against the Washington Stealth on January 9.

Lacrosse fans can also expect to cheer on their local lacrosse teams throughout the night, as the University of Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State University Cyclones Men's Lacrosse Teams will go head-to-head for the first time at Wells Fargo Arena. This will be the second match up between these two teams this season; the first took place September 11, 2009 where the Cyclones won 13 - 9.
